What We Are

Tools disappear. Every day. Nobody tracks it.

Somewhere in Canada right now, a tradesperson is showing up to a job site and their tools are gone. No record. No serial numbers on file. No insurance claim that goes anywhere. The loss gets absorbed and life moves on.

The Tool Crib is a subscription-based tool documentation and management platform. Catalogue your inventory. Record serial numbers, photos, and purchase receipts. Build the verified ownership record that makes recovery, insurance claims, and proof of ownership possible.

You document before something happens. The platform does the rest.

$300M+
Estimated value of tools stolen in Canada annually. Some estimates reach $1B. No national body tracks it.
89%
Of tradespeople report having tools stolen. Most absorb the loss and move on.
7–25%
Recovery rate for stolen tools in Canada. Without documentation, the odds are near zero.
How the Tool Crib Works
01
Catalogue Your Inventory
Photograph every tool. Record serial numbers, purchase dates, and receipts. Build a verified ownership record that exists before anything goes missing. The platform stores it securely so you have it when you need it.
02
Instant Theft Report Package
When tools go missing, the Tool Crib generates a professional theft report package on demand. Photos. Serial numbers. Proof of ownership. Everything an insurer or police report needs. Generated in seconds.
03
Accounting Integration
Track depreciation automatically via CCA schedule export to QuickBooks Online. Self-employed tradespeople deduct tools as Class 8 assets. The Tool Crib builds the record your accountant needs without the manual work.
04
Multi-Site Tracking
Track tools across job sites, vehicles, and storage locations. Know where your assets are. Document movement. Assign tools to crew members. Stop losing track of what you own and where it is.
05
Six-Year CRA Compliance Record
CRA requires six years of records for any tool-related deduction. The Tool Crib maintains your complete documentation history automatically. Audit ready from day one. No boxes of receipts. No spreadsheets.

Theft & Recovery

Recovery fails every time for the same three reasons.

The pattern is predictable. A tradesperson reports a theft. The officer takes the report. Without serial numbers, photos, or proof of ownership, the file goes cold. Insurance claims are denied or reduced. The tradesperson buys replacement tools out of pocket and keeps working.

No documentation. No serial numbers on file. No proof of ownership. The Tool Crib eliminates all three failure points before a theft ever occurs.

The Scale of the Problem
$300M to $1B Stolen Every Year in Canada
This is a 2026 estimate based on construction, trade, and equipment loss data. No national tracking body exists. No centralized database. No coordination between police jurisdictions. The losses are real, widespread, and almost entirely undocumented. The Tool Village is building the foundation for the infrastructure that should have existed twenty years ago.
Why Recovery Fails
89% of Tradespeople Are Victims. 7% Recover Their Tools.
Nearly nine in ten tradespeople have been victims of tool theft. Recovery rates run between 7% and 25% nationally. Without a verified ownership record, that number approaches zero. Insurance adjusters need serial numbers. Police need photos. Without documentation, there is no claim and no case. The Tool Crib exists to change that outcome.
What the Tool Crib Gives You
Documentation That Works When It Matters
Every tool in your Tool Crib inventory is photographed, serial-numbered, and timestamped. When tools go missing, the platform generates a complete theft report package in seconds. Serial numbers, photos, purchase records, estimated replacement value. Everything an insurer or police report needs to act on your claim.
About The Tool Village
